About

Julia Vanderpool is a Charleston-based artist with a background in photojournalism. After working as a photojournalist for four newspapers, she paused her career to raise her four daughters and manage a family business before returning to her creative practice.

Julia’s work spans serigraphs, textiles, and photography, unified by her interest in storytelling, color, and material process. She primarily works in silkscreen printing, reimagining her archive of black-and-white negatives into vibrant, layered compositions. Her textile work explores natural indigo dyeing, combining color, texture, and pattern to create expressive fabric pieces and wearable art. She divides her creative practice between her home studio in Mount Pleasant and the labs at Redux Contemporary Art Center. Julia also teaches ongoing indigo dyeing workshops at Redux, sharing her expertise and enthusiasm for hands-on craft with the community.
